A Hunter's Moon Ritual

It’s officially spooky season and we have finally made it through the first week of October, well done, pat on the back for you, Spirit Mama is proud.

It’s funny I’ve always thought that my favourite time of year was Summer; my birthday is in the summer and I looooove heat. However, as I’m getting older I’m starting to realise that I notice the colour of the trees a lot more around this time of year, I love that I get to decorate, and I don’t mind the early night time, (plus I’m never going to miss out on a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks). I feel like I really begin to connect with nature more In Autumn, and I absolutely love that feeling.

So as we finish off our first week of October. This Sunday 9th we welcome our first full moon of the Autumnal Equinox; the Hunter’s Moon. This moon typically appears in October, apart from once every four years when it doesn’t appear until November!

The name ‘Hunters Moon’ or ‘Blood Moon’ comes from the Native Americans, who would wait until after summer into the autumn months so that the deer they would prey would have fattened themselves, and they could use the moonlight to track and kill them easier.

Now I have prepared a quick Hunters Moon ritual for you that you may like to try out but please don’t panic, I won’t be telling you to slaughter any frogs or cute bunny rabbits. Well, not anytime soon anyway…

A Hunters Moon Ritual

The power of this full moon is to release negativity. It’s a time to rid the negative thoughts, unwind, and adopt a positive mindset for the journey into the coming darkness while the veil is thin.

If you’re thinking of performing a ritual for yourself or with a friend, I highly recommend a spell that includes; Sage for healing and protection. Fire, the element of power and strength, to represent transformation (fire can physically change an objects form), and an intention. This intention should be focused on self-awareness or self-success.

You will need

  • Sage Stick

  • Fireproof bowl

  • Matches or Lighter

  • Pen and Paper

  • Your intention

  • Glass of Water

  • White Candle

  • Salt

What to do

1. Begin by lighting the White candle while focusing on your intention in your head and place the glass of water near the fireproof bowl. (This is incase of an emergency).

2. Light your sage stick and waft it around your room to cleanse any negative energy. Then choose your spot to sit and draw an outline around your body in a circle of salt. Again, this is to prevent any negative energy or spirits to enter your space while you are performing your magic.

3. Ensure the area is quiet and then begin by taking as many deep breaths as you need to ground and centre yourself. It’s important you do this until you feel ready.

4. Now it’s time to close your eyes and listen to your internal voice, your higher self. Listen to what they are saying, what is bothering them? What is it time to let go of? This can be about literally anything. This is all about you and what you need.

5. Take any negative statement that stands out to you and rewire it into a positive statement.

Example

I am fed up of feeling ugly and feeling as though I will never improve my weight.

Instead say:

I am happy with the body I’ve been given, and there are so many different ways I could improve it if I wanted to.

6. Write the negative statement down on the Paper, note that there can be more than one statement if you would like, and then very carefully light the negative statement on fire (either in or over the fireproof bowl) and repeat the positive statement as it burns. Repeat this if you have more than one negative statement.

Once you're finished, ensure that all flames have been fully extinguished and carefully clear your salt.

Your spell is complete.
